You’ve heard it before and it’s true: the best workout is the one you will do. In a world of treadmills, aerobics, bikes, exercise balls, exercise machine, and a plethora of other gadgets, choosing may seem overwhelming. Cardiovascular exercise, or aerobics, improves the health of your heart. Strength training builds muscle. Flexibility exercises are good for conquering stress. Knowing what to consider can help you find a workout you’ll not only stick with but also enjoy.

Consider Your Personality

If you’re shy, you might not enjoy going to a gym and doing anything because other people are there and they could be watching, which might make you fell self-conscious or nervous. These feelings are not good when you’re trying to workout because they detract from why you’re there: to workout. If you’re a social creature, you may need to connections you find at a gym to help you stay motivated.

Instead of forcing yourself to do something that makes you uncomfortable, do something that fits your personality. If you’re shy, workout at home. Your choices include dozens of DVDs on aerobics, walking, kick boxing, yoga, and tai chi. You can also invest in a stationary bike, row machine, or treadmill to use in the privacy of your own home.

Consider Your Goals

If you’re aiming to lose weight, you must incorporate aerobic activity into your exercise regimen. There’s no way around this because raising your heart rate and keeping it raised for at least 15 or 20 minutes burns fat.

If you’re looking to build muscle, you need to incorporate strength training into your routine. Again, if going to the gym sounds like a drag, invest in some weights or a machine that will give you a great muscle-building experience.

If you want to relieve stress or improve flexibility, consider yoga, pilates, or tai chi. These exercises are great for calming the spirit and strengthening your balance. If you want to improve your core, these kinds of routines are beneficial.

Think about your workout goals and think about what you like to do. Working out should be a healthy choice but you shouldn’t hate it. And the good is there are so many choices, you’ll never have to worry about hating your workout.
